We had a wonderful and successful gathering last year in Illinois. We hope that everyone is excited to attend this year’s Summers Family Reunion and Caribbean BBQ on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Noon.

Come join the lineage of Summers Elder Lucille Daniels as granddaughters Lakeisha Armstrong, Markeita Summers, Chiana Armstrong, and their committee host our “Rooted in Love” themed reunion in Gary, Indiana. They have been working diligently to plan a family reunion event that is fun, affordable, and accessible to all. To help you plan to attend, we’ve loaded our website with information about registration forms and assessment fees, activities, important locations, lodging, meal information, commemorative T-shirts, and a FAQ list of important questions and answers about the event.

To help you plan to attend, below is a list of important questions and answers about the event.

  1. Who’s Invited?  All Summers Family members
  2. Where:  Lake Etta County Park, 4801 W. 29th Avenue, Gary, Indiana    
  3. Time:  12:00 Noon – 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 17, 2024
  4. How do I participate? Visit the SummersReunion.com webpage and follow the directions listed, complete the registration process.
  5. How do I register for the reunion?  Registration is simple and may be completed in minutes by following the directions on the Online Registration Form.
  6. Who must register? Frankly, everyone, all attendees must complete the registration form and pay a nominal assessment fee. The assessment fee includes the cost of the Caribbean BBQ at Lake Etta Park Pavilion and the related amenities.
  7. How do I register my family? For your convenience, multiple members of your family may be included in your registration.  The website will provide a Total Payment Due summary as part of the registration process.
  8. What is the cost of the assessment? The assessment fee is $30 for adults and $10 for children, as noted below:
    • Assessment per adult (17 years and up) – $30
    • Assessment per child (16 years and under) – $10
  9. How do I pay assessment? For your convenience, all assessments may be paid electronically and securely from your mobile device.

      • Download electronic payment apps through Google Play or the Apple App Store on your cellular phone or mobile tablet.  You can enroll in electronic payment apps using a debit card or by providing a link to your checking account.
  10. When are assessments due? Please complete the registration and pay the assessment balance by Wednesday, July 17, 2024.  Your timely submission helps us to keep the reunion costs low and ensure adequate resources for attendees.  We won’t be able to accept payments at the reunion.
  11. What kind of food will be served?  A Caribbean BBQ will be served at 2:00 p.m.
  12. What about persons with dietary restrictions? Persons with dietary restrictions should complete a separate registration form and pay their assessment fee.  The registration form allows for the designation of the dietary restriction for one individual when required.

  14. Will we be under a covered pavilion?  Yes, although it’s a park setting, we have outdoor open-air seating, a covered pavilion, and even indoor seating spaces with restroom access.
  15. What activities are included? Well, there’s the food and fellowship, but we’ll also have music, dancing, games, a children’s playground, Jenga, card games, volleyball, prizes, and even a 360-degree photo booth.
  16. Will we have matching T-shirts?  Yes, we will, and they are priced to be affordable.  The T-shirts are event-themed, gray with black printing and logo, and are 100% cotton. Click Here to download the order form.

    • Youth T-shirt (Youth sizes S – L) – $15
    • T-shirts will be distributed Friday evening at the Meet and Greet, and available at the Reunion on Saturday.
  17. How can I order my T-shirts?  T-shirts may be ordered by clicking on the T-shirt links throughout the SummersReunion webpage or by selecting the T-shirt link Here.  Instructions for sizing, submission, and payments are on the T-shirt form, along with an image of the shirt. For your convenience, the vendor is accepting electronic payment for t-shirts during your reunion registration or separately at any time, up to the ordering deadline of Wednesday, July 17, 2024
  18. What about special needs or accommodations? Public parks, hotels, and restaurants associated with our scheduled events are generally accessible to persons with special needs. Seating will be at picnic tables, benches, and at some tables with traditional seating. If you are local and need a supportive chair, please bring one with you.  Please contact the host hotel early, for handicap-accessible or connecting rooms, due to limited inventory. Feel free to reach out to the reunion committee, if you need additional special needs accommodations not identified in this document.
  19. What’s the weather like in Gary, Indiana?  August can be pretty hot, don’t forget to bring sunscreen and make sure to stay hydrated. Bottled Water will be provided at the reunion.
  20. Are there any hotel accommodations available?  The reunion committee has successfully negotiated a block of hotel rooms, with discount rates at the Hilton Garden Inn, Schererville, Indiana.  The rates for Friday, August 16, 2024, and Saturday, August 17, 2024, are $169 per night, for single or double occupancy. Family members who extend their stay through Sunday, August 18, 2024, will enjoy a further reduction in their room rate to $139 per night, for single or double occupancy.
  21. How do I book my hotel room? Book your hotel room with the Hilton Garden Inn, Schererville, Indiana by clicking BOOK ROOMS FOR THE SUMMERS FAMILY REUNION NOW or by contacting the hotel directly at (219)-769-7100 and requesting rates under the “Summers Family Reunion Block”.  The discounted rate for the Summers Family closes once the block of rooms is sold out or on July 17, 2024, whichever occurs first.  Because the hotel is located near popular restaurants and shopping malls, family members are encouraged to reserve rooms early.
